Naturopathic Medicine

A natural and integrated approach to health and healing with focus on the root cause of illness and disease. It is a blend of modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. The body has an incredible ability to heal itself. This ability can be enhanced and optimized with natural medicines, proper nutrition and lifestyle changes.

Naturopathic Doctor

After having done an undergraduate program with science prerequisites, a student goes through 4 years of Naturopathic Medical School at one of 7 accredited schools in North America. The last of the four years is a full year (straight through summer) of clinical experience as an intern. To become fully licensed the graduate must pass a final examination and board exams set out by the province of residence.

Naturopathic Principles

FIRST, DO NO HARM
Using methods and medicines that minimize the risk of harmful side effects.

IDENTIFY AND TREAT THE CAUSE
Identifying and removing underlying causes of illness, rather than suppressing symptoms.

TREAT THE WHOLE PERSON THROUGH INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT
Understanding the unique physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental and social factors that contribute to illness, and customizing treatments to the patient.

USE THE HEALING POWER OF NATURE
Recognizing and removing obstacles to the body’s inherent self-healing process.

DOCTOR AS TEACHER
Sharing knowledge with patients, and encouraging individual responsibility for health.

DISEASE PREVENTION AND HEALTH PROMOTION
Partnering with the patient to assess risk factors and recommend appropriate naturopathic therapies and habits that create good health. Emphasizing on building health rather than fighting disease.

Appointment Style

  • Initial Appointment

    • Here we discuss your health history/health concerns for 60 minutes and go over all the systems in your body and any previous lab work that was done.

    • Then behind the scenes I create a preliminary treatment plan and suggested lab work to investigate your health more.

  • Complimentary Phone Chat

    • A short 15 minutes to go over your preliminary treatment plan and the lab work that was suggested.

  • Lab Work Results Appointment

    • Here we discuss your lab work results (usually in a 30-45 minute appointment), lots of education about your health and what the results from the labs mean.

    • After this I go to work to make necessary adjustments to your preliminary treatment plan for a more long term plan.

  • Future Follow Ups

    • From time to time it is good to meet to discuss any improvements or changes in your health. Go over any concerns or questions. And make any adjustments to your treatment plan. These are the most important part of our time together as it is good to make sure your goals and outcomes are being met.
